Our Story:

Back in grade school, Tim (the owner of Waka’nai), was always into art and expressed his passions by drawing. Ever since he could hold a pencil, he would try to draw everything he saw. He would spend every moment of free time away from schoolwork, to just sit and draw away. He took art classes throughout his life and thrived in them.

Later when he went to college, he noticed that his passions for drawing became less frequent and felt that his major had turned into a hobby. He accepted this and turned his focus towards business, writing and communications, which he loved as well. After graduating from college, he still enjoyed drawing on occasion and his enjoyment for writing and art. He would often drive to the coastline during sunset to write and draw whatever was on his mind while listening to his favorite tunes on the radio.

Since he enjoyed different aspects of art and communication, he wanted to somehow express his thoughts, ideas and beliefs in some form or another so he decided to put together what he loves most: art, music, writing, sunsets and the ocean and integrated the five passions into a surf & skate apparel business implementing some of these aspects of his passions and personality onto the design work and philosophy of the business itself.

Thus Waka’nai was born in the year 2000 and what a ride it’s been since and continues to be today!

Our “passions” for life give us the everlasting energy to succeed in everything we do.
